Balance is one of the most important skills we use when exercising and in our everyday lives and often it’s the one skill we neglect to train. It becomes even more important as we age. However, research has shown that if we practice balance it does improve. This class works on the three systems that contribute to our balance - visual, vestibular which receives input from our middle ear, and proprioception which receives feedback via receptors in our muscles and joints.
The class is suitable for everyone as you can adjust these exercises by changing your base of support depending on your ability to balance. You may also like a chair next to you – ‘just in case” if that gives you more confidence whilst doing the exercises. Mix it up - sometimes wear shoes and sometimes go barefooted when doing the class as it can be quite a different feeling and replicates everyday life.
Strength in your legs is also important; so pairing this workout with some of our ‘Strength & Conditioning’ workouts during the week would be ideal.
